GROVE BLACK (FEAT. GRIZ-O)

Bristol-based DJ, producer and artist Grove's explosive EP Queer + Black landed today through a collaboration between two tastemaker labels Memorials of Distinction and Spinny Nights. Serving as "as an introduction to my experience of the world", Grove describes the release as "tunes to get sweaty in the dance to, as well as contemplate sexuality, class + race.
" We're digging a little deeper on 'Black (feat. Griz-O)' - the unapologetic centrepiece of the EP. Celebrating their race with saucy lines like "they say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice", throbbing synth bass swells writhe around boom bap beats. Exploring their identity Grove notes, "the black in me comes from matriarchs and family", paying tribute to the strength of their ancestors and relatives before handing over the lyrical reins to fellow South West maverick Griz-O. Check out 'Black (feat. Griz-O)' and the rest of Queer + Black here now. -Holly Mullineaux
